🌍 Global Training Opportunity
The International Well Control Forum (IWCF) has launched a free global online training course designed to improve understanding of drilling and well intervention operations, as well as the causes and prevention of well blowouts and oil spill incidents.
This interactive e-learning program was developed in response to the International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (IOGP) recommendations following the Macondo well blowout. The IOGP advised that a Level 1 introductory awareness course should be introduced to enhance industry-wide safety knowledge.
🎓 About the Course
The IWCF Level 1 Well Control Awareness Course introduces learners to:

How reservoirs are formed

The lifecycle of a well
-
Key drilling and intervention activities
-
Hazards, prevention methods, and industry techniques to handle blowouts
Real-life case studies — including the Macondo incident — are used to help participants understand the importance of well control and risk management.
🕒 Each module takes about half a day, and the entire course can be completed in around two days.
🧠 Course Structure – 7 Learning Modules
Level 1: Well Control Awareness includes 7 interactive modules:
1️⃣ Overview of Oil and Gas
2️⃣ Life Cycle of a Well
3️⃣ Drilling Rigs
4️⃣ Well Control During Drilling Operations
5️⃣ Well Intervention and Workover
6️⃣ Pressure Control During Well Intervention
7️⃣ Conclusion
At the end of each module, you’ll complete a Knowledge Check to test your understanding.
After finishing all seven modules, there’s a final exam — pass with 70% or higher to receive your Level 1 Certificate, which you can print at home.
